From Christian Red of the Daily News via MLBTR, the Yankees and Mariano Rivera have agreed to two year deal worth $30MM.
So, it appears that Mo didn’t get the raise he wanted, but he got his two years. This was definitely a foregone conclusion, but it’s nice to see it done. At the end of this contract, I assume Rivera will retire from pitching…then sign a contract and become a Hall of Fame position player.
Mariano Rivera – so great that $15 million a year for a 41-year-old reliever seems fair.

It’s so nice to see some give and take in a negotiation without getting ugly.. Mo wanted 2 years and a raise and the Yankees (from what it looks like) said you only get one and Mo took the security, great all around deal and it’s good to see part 1 of re-signing the greats done.
I guess this lays the ground work for the 3 year 19-20 million dollar contract Jeter will eventually get. T.O. Chris(Quote)

Amen to your comments, Chris. I wonder what plan “B” is if Mo goes down for any length of time. Kevin Ocala, Fl(Quote)

I imagine they would look within and use either Robertson or god forbid Joba, of course that depends on what happens this winter because Kerry could decide to come back, the Yanks could sign Brian Fuentes as a second lefty who has closing experience (my no 1 bullpen move this offseason) or we could end up trading for somebody.
Bobby Jenks got non tendered today I wouldn’t mind giving him a look on a minor league deal with a ST invite but someone will give him a major league deal to middle relieve at least (Boston) and besides I don’t think Fatty Jenks is a great idea around Joba.
IMO Fuentes should be our main focus of the “B group” of players (if you consider Jeter, Mo, Lee and Andy the “A group”) because of his former closing experience in the AL, he can come in an be our second lefty out of the pen but he isn’t a strict left on left kind of guy and he provides a veteran presence at the end of the game if Mo goes out. I wouldn’t want to rely on Brian to close a full season but worst comes to worst and Mo misses a month I feel fine with Fuentes over that period. T.O. Chris(Quote)

Acording to MLB rumor Rivera turned down at least 1 deal for 3 years worth more money from a “rival” and Jon Heyman reports that 3 teams offered Mariano 3 year deals including Boston and the Angels but Mo turned those down to stay a Yankee.
Got to love loyalty from a player for an organization that has been his home for so long, he probably could have gotten 2 years 18 piece then from another team. T.O. Chris(Quote)
