IMPORTANT BLOG ANNOUNCEMENT

Via MLB Trade Rumors:

It’s no blockbuster, but Kevin Towers and Brian Cashman made a deal today. The Yankees acquired right-hander Scott Allen from the Diamondbacks for infielder Juan Miranda, according to a team press release.

The Diamondbacks chose Allen, 19, in the 11th round of the 2009 draft. In 95 2/3 innings over two seasons, he has a 3.95 ERA with 8.9 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9.

The deal was definitely made possible through Cashman and Towers relationship, and his short term in the Yankee front office. The Yankees had no use for Miranda. He could very well be the starting 1b for the Diamondbacks this year. Farewell, Juan.

This is the “small player move” that Cashman has been hinting to recently. I can’t complain. And yes, he is listed as “Scottie” Allen on BR.

  1. Miranda is a good kid but I always saw a trade to the NL as the best thing for him, he was really blocked all around for us and he is limited in his upside IMO. I know a lot of Yankee fans really Juan but this is his opportunity to really get some actual playing time either as a starting 1B or as a pinch hitter either of which is better than his role with the yanks going forward.  (Quote)

  2. It’s a good opportunity for Miranda. I also like the move because it frees up a spot on the 40-man roster without sacrificing much of anything because Miranda was a lefty and blocked.  (Quote)

That’s a good point Ted I didn’t even think about that side of it, with the free 40 man spot we have the option save an extra player from the rule 5 draft.  (Quote)

Yeah, and apparently he has issues with stamina. Maybe a move to the bullpen will raise his ceiling a bit, we’ll see.  (Quote)

  4. Miranda is lazy he has talent but in his last game the I’ll playoffs he stood at the plate to admire a triple he thought was a Home run. I was there.  (Quote)
