A fellow named Gary Dunaier has a nice collection of photos up, showing the progress of the demolition of the old ballpark. Demolition of the old building is due to be completed around June/July of 2010. I recommend sifting through all of them, but here’s some highlights:

As you can see, the Left field stands are beginning to come down. If they thought they created a wind tunnel to Right Field last year, removing that portion of the building first could amplify the effect dramatically.

A section of the wall beyond the Right Field area has been removed.

Patches of wall have been removed around the facility

The outfield bleachers near the diamond vision are all gone.

The demolition of the old Yankee Stadium has really come a long way. It’s a shame to see it coming down after so many years of existence. Being the dedicated Yankee fan that I am though, at the start of the demolition project, I wanted to acquire some sort of memento or artifact from the stadium that used to be there. I actually found something really nice! On the Steiner Sports Auction website, I found authentic and original wooden chairs that were first installed in 1923 when the old Yankee Stadium opened. It’d be pretty cool to get something like this because of this particular item’s significance; after all, these were one of the first chairs that sat in the old Yankee Stadium. Truly a keepsake!!!
