About 45 minutes ago, it was announced that Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira have both won the American League’s 2009 Silver Slugger Award at their respective positions (read about all the winners here). The pinstriped duo also took home Gold Glove Awards earlier in the week. That World Series title is probably a pretty big deal, too.

  1. No surprise here, once they won Gold Gloves it assured them of the silver slugger… The two aren’t as separable as people would like to think…

I think it’s a toss up between Aaron Hill and Cano but I still have no problem with Hill winning out…

Cano deserved it. Unfortunately voters are blinded by a few homers.

What can you do? We loved HRs when everyone was hitting them and now that the number of big HR guys have shrunk again we love the large numbers even more. Hill did have a amazing break out season and I would only expect Cano to be better next year so like I said I have no problem with Hill getting this one.

I wonder if anti-clutch-ness worked against Robbie?

That and his lack of HRs compared toa guy like Hill, I mean Robby got 200 hits batting 7th most of the year, that’s impressive but HRs are still the benchmark by which players are judged.
