Kevin Towers has been fired by the San Diego Padres. Thanks to MLBTR, we know that Towers has already received many job offers from MLB teams. Towers remarked that he wants some time off before taking another job.
Brian Cashman and Kevin Towers have a history. They are very good friends, both inside and outside of baseball. Kevin Towers has a very talented baseball mind, and could help the New York Yankees out across the board. In particular, he has managed to construct good bullpens year after year from the scrapheap. Working on a shoestring budget, he had a great deal of success with the Padres.
Unless a GM job opens up somewhere, I could see Towers making the Yankees, and his buddy Cashman, his next destination in baseball.
