CC doesn’t have the velocity I thought he would today, he can get by with out it but he needs to end this inning before he throws 70 pitches in 3 innings.

I checked with Gameday and saw 92-93 in the first round, and I also said I expected him to throw more around 94-96 instead of 94 occasional 95. The other Chris H(Quote)

I also never meant he was throwing well below average, he was throwing a few 92’s and a few 93’s but I was just expecting one if his A+ velocity nights. HE was throwing 92-93 to start the game and it started creeping up after Orlando Cabrera. I also figured he might be a little charged up tonight and be throwing more in the 96 range but he looks to be building up so the best is yet to come. The other Chris H(Quote)

Great at bat by the O-Cab but Hughes ended up winning in the end, I don’t understand why he doesn’t use the knuckle curve more in relief I know he has the fastball but 10 pitches 9 fastballs and one slider, why not one curve? The other Chris H(Quote)

I tend to agree. I think the philosophy is that they can’t catch up to Phil’s heat, anyway, so why give them a chance. He’s mixed it up in the eighth more with some nice cutters but a nasty curve every once in a while would really keep them honest. Tom Gaffney(Quote)

Coke is the main lefty in the pen and Kubel is a power hitting lefty makes perfect sense to me… Robertson walks to many to bring him in with someone on and Joba might as well be saved for the righty when you have coke. The other Chris H(Quote)

I wonder if Joba is coming in to go an inning and a third or just the third to get some playoff pitches under his belt? Should be interesting to see his velocity in the pen with no limits on anything…
EDIT: Well he didn’t throw 100 as the announcer claimed he was in between innings but 95 isn’t bad… I think it does make the case for him protecting his arm that he is only throwing 95-96 out of the pen now when before he was consistently 97-99. Everyone just seems to go along with the drop from 99 to 91 as a starter and I don’t… Yeah he should drop to 93-95 and hit 96-98 on occasions that call for it but 91? The other Chris H(Quote)

Has Jorge EVER gone up the ladder on a batter, EVER?
If he decides a guy can’t hit the ball low and away and the guy fouls off 4 pitches low and away, he stays low and away until the guy finally gets a hit.He rarely comes inside in that situation.He’s a predictable catcher who can’t block the wild pitch and lately only calls fastballs with a man on first who is a steal possibility.

I thought Girardi over managed the bullpen today and got away with it with the sizable lead.
IF Hughes didn’t get Orlando there, he has to face Mauer with men on base.I think CC would have been the better choice for one more out there.That way if Orlando Cabrera gets on base, CC faces Mauer which IMO is a better play there.

Phil Coke was warmed up in that inning and I was worried Girardi would bring him in to face Mauer if Cabrera got on. Mauer had two or three homers off of Coke this year which I think would have made it a terrible move in this situation. Glad Hughes got Cabrera. bumbler(Quote)

Why not? I’m not necessarily arguing your point but what’s the argument for not letting Hughes pitch to Mauer?
Phil Hughes has faced Mauer 3 times and Mauer has been sat down each time, and besides from Gaudin (0-5) and Robertson (0-2) no one else on the Yankee team has kept Mauer with out a hit this season. The other Chris H(Quote)
