Joe Girardi expects his team to very patient tonight against John Lackey (so, basically, stick to what has worked all season). Should be a fun matchup. If I had to offer a prediction, I’d say the Yankees — of course — in 5 games.

  3. I’ll be posting on and off through out the game… everyone have fun and if you are an Angel fan lets just keep it to baseball discussion and not trolling… Other than that have fun and Go Yankees!  (Quote)

  4. Well it looks like for sure this game will be played, there should be some light rain through out the game but at least we are getting it in and it doesn’t look to bad right now. Now if tomorrow holds up there should be no more weather problems considering game 3 and 4 are in sunny LAA.  (Quote)

  5. Erick Karros just said something like this on FOX: “CC Sabathia isn’t a guy who’s going to go out and dominate, he wasn’t in the top 10 for anything this year—he’s a workhorse.” What an idiot. I want to reach into my TV set and slap that goofy look off his face. How was he not corrected?  (Quote)

He wasn’t top 10 in anything? ERA, wins, strike outs, and 1-2-3 innings he was top 10 in all of them…  (Quote)

  6. I can’t believe the Angles D has fallen apart so badly to allow Damon to go to third on a bad throw by Rivera to no one and then to allow Damon to score on the third out that no one caught in the INFIELD.  (Quote)

These Carribean guys (on both sides, but more on the Angels–don’t seem to like the cold weather).

Lachey falling behind a lot of hitters–good sign!

Hopefully that missed popup will be the signature play of the series.  (Quote)

I am seeing guys like Cano not having good at bats but Morales is from Cuba and he came through with a great hit for an RBI.  (Quote)

    OldFan Reply:

Cano is funny the way he is all wrapped up. He’s going to get a hit tonight, though.

No foolin’–I posted this before Cano almost hit it out. This sentence is an edit.
Next time up it is a hit for him.  (Quote)

    The other Chris H Reply:

Close to a HR there but no cigar… He looks to uncomfortable to get a hit.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    OldFan Reply:

He is definitely uncomfortable, but he hit it real good twice now. The cold is making him focus more.  (Quote)

    The other Chris H Reply:

He made a great defensive dive for that ball…  (Quote)

  7. The Yankees are really taking patients to a new level tonight, not one hitter has swung at the first pitch they have seen strike or not.  (Quote)

  8. I don’t have a problem with anything Arod did there… It was a clean play and he was trying to score in an important situation…  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    OldFan Reply:

I agree. Its good that Arod trys an agressive play like this. It’s good for him-mentally (as long as he protects that hip).  (Quote)

    Charihar Reply:

Can’t blame Arod. He was safe too.  (Quote)

    The other Chris H Reply:

I agree the glove never touched Arod but he never touched the plate so he wasn’t…  (Quote)

    Charihar Reply:

He touched it after. Mathis never got him with the glove.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    The other Chris H Reply:

Did he? I never saw it… Either way I consider you out if you make contact with a catcher who has the ball and holds on, glove doesn’t need to touch the runner for me in that situation.  (Quote)

    Charihar Reply:

Ya for the ump it’s impossible to see that  (Quote)

  9. I think Tex’s foot was on the bag but it was real close…  (Quote)

  10. The “vastly superior” Angel D has completely fallen apart tonight for the Angels and the Yankees for the most part have played great D, especially CC and Tex on the bunt throw out.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  11. Seriously. I write about Rivera’s good arm and he gets an error. I write about LA’s range and they let an infield fly drop. An unusual night for the Angel defense.  (Quote)

    The other Chris H Reply:

Cold looks like it might be getting to them more than they thought… I heard yesterday Jeter told the team to practice in the rain so they could get use to it.  (Quote)

    OldFan Reply:

It’s because the Angels are too used to that Southern California sunshine (and they feel so good about themselves after the Boston series)..
Even the games that they played in Boston were Indian-Summer type warm days.

Sweep ‘em before they get their bearings.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    The other Chris H Reply:

Well we have to win some games in LA so they will get a chance to warm back up… I would assume they should be more use to it tomorrow.  (Quote)

  12. Sabathia has looked really dominate since the first inning on and at 98 pitches I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at least start the 8th inning.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  13. Good slider to get Alex to chase 3-2… The Yankees have done an excellent job of running up the count I have seen at least 6 full counts tonight and that isn’t counting all the foul ball at bats they have had even with the 3-2 count.  (Quote)

  14. The other Chris H: Cano

Well it wasn’t a hit but he got hit haha  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    OldFan Reply:

That pitch that hit him looked like it hurt.
He’s due for a breakout. He’s saving his hits for tomorrow or the first game in Cali, when we will need them more.

Looks like Girardi is not taking any chances with Hughes tonight. It’s CC straight to Mo.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    The other Chris H Reply:

CC to Mo is the way I like it too… Must be comforting to a starter to know he can go 8 and it’s like pitching a CG because you don’t have to worry about who’s coming into save the game.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  15. Sabathia has his arm tucked away so it looks like he will be coming back out for the 8th inning… I like the Sabathia 7.2 IP and Mariano 1.1 for right now…  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  16. Another great breaking ball gets the strike out with the bases loaded… Bulger has a nasty breaking ball for sure!  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  17. Bad swing by Swish. Betting CC goes batter by batter here.  (Quote)

  18. Charihar: Ya for the ump it’s impossible to see that

I look at that like having your foot slightly above 2nd on the double play, it’s so close you just call it out.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  19. What a dominate starting effort by Sabathia… 8 IP, 7 Ks, 1 BB, 4 H and 1 ER I think he has definitely silenced the critics about him Being a big game post season pitcher because he just shut down a great Angels offense. The only ball hit hard was the Guerrero almost HR and the the Morales ball was just hit well not hard.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

    The other Chris H Reply:

Sabathia dominated but he didn’t reach peak velocity until the 7th, he still didn’t have his best slider and his control wasn’t as good as it could be and we have seen it be so he still has room to improve and he has only given up 1 run in two playoff games.  (Quote)

    [Reply To This Comment]

  20. This ump is handcuffing Mo, you could have called 2 of those first 3 balls strikes.  (Quote)

    Chris H. Reply:

He was definitely squeezing him.  (Quote)

That is a common theme with umps and Mo, they don’t give him the benefit of the doubt when it’s close.  (Quote)
