Due to what has been characterized as “elbow tightness,” according to Anthony DiComo, David Robertson has been shut down indefinitely. He is also scheduled to see Dr. James Andrews after undergoing an MRI yesterday. This is a tough break for the team as Robertson has been an effective piece of the bullpen. Hopefully we’ll see him again this season.

Just commented on this in two other parts of the blog… it didn’t worry me as I was hearing the report until 1050 said he already has an appointment with Andrews, to me this means he may have TJ surgery in his future or at the very least the Yankees are worried that may be the case. Girardi didn’t sound real optimistic about it either, but the real question becomes if he is out for this year or at least the first round of the playoffs who takes his roster spot? Bruney and Gaudin must be at least somewhat encouraged that they have a better chance now because Robertson was almost certainly the first choice early in games to face righties at least.

David Price has terrible fast ball command, I mean it is god awful… He has hit the location of the glove on a fastball twice in the game so far… It just is so good no they hit into out or even miss it, Swisher’s home run was almost predictable because he had missed 4 straight fastballs in the inning up and away slightly but they were all set up outside they set the glove up in the middle down and the ball drifted almost on cue up and middle slightly slightly away and he bam. Kid has some really good stuff and is a lefty but Hughes and Joba have better fastball command than him, at least from the this game and a few others I have watched of Price.

Even before hand he was missing his location quite a bit but his overall stuff was getting him through, he is dominating the game fairly well and pitching nicely but command is not his biggest asset, it’s clear that is going to be his biggest battle as a pitcher.
I think what gets me is that he misses the glove up and that is the worst place to miss especially when you are throwing down because it makes everything more hittable.

Yeah he’s a lefty who throws 95 he can be an ace with a slider and change (we have one) but every single fastball is like he is aiming above the glove by a few inches.
He basically misses up into the sweet spot on the bat but he throws so hard the batters are off balance at the plate but missing up will lead to a lot of HRs if he worked on missing down he would cut his HRs in half.

Is Girardi trying to out manage Maddon? Marte, Bruney, Coke just because Maddon is pinch hitting, I think Marte could have gotten Dioner easy and bringing in Bruney with runners on first and second has some dangers to it and Coke has struggled a little recently and you know he is facing a righty because you forced his hand. Even though it worked out so far he (Girardi) may have out thought himself here.
