From ESPN:

Aroldis Chapman, the Cuban defector considered to be one of the top pitching prospects in the world, petitioned Major League Baseball for free-agency status recently and is likely only weeks from becoming a free agent, according to his agent.

Early Monday, Chapman’s representatives announced that the left-hander has established residency in Andorra, a tiny country of about 84,000 that borders Spain and France.

By establishing residency outside the United States, the 21-year-old Chapman avoids being subject to baseball’s amateur draft. MLB must study his residency and legal paperwork before declaring him a free agent.

The usual suspects are all in on Chapman—a lefty that can reportedly touch 102 mph on the radar gun—including the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels and Dodgers. In my opinion, if the Yankees want Chapman, they’ll get him. If you’re not familiar with Chapman’s legend, here’s a great read about him by ESPN’s Jorge Arangure Jr.

But his fastball also fluctuates wildly from 100 all the way down to 90-92 at times and is never consistently above 93 and he has no control on any of his pitches, the fact is he could come in like gang busters or he could be one of the worst contracts in the history of baseball. He has a fastball you can’ty count on and a developing slider and that is all he has “down pat” anything else he has to put a lot of work in to actually pitch effective with, this guy could end up in the bull pen because he can’t use more than 2 pitches, I would love the Yankees to take the risk but that is what it is a RISK.
