CC Sabathia threw 6 2/3 innings last night, giving up 3 ER on 8 hits while capturing his league-leading 15th win. He walked 0 and struck out 8. Although CC labored in the Fenway finale, tossing 118 pitches to Jose Molina, he was hurt by a couple of defensive miscues from Robinson Cano (one can argue that the pop-up error was on Tex for not taking control of the play). Cano’s pair of errors ultimately extended CC’s outing yet the Boston lineup deserves a lot of credit for making him work.
Luckily for Sabathia, the Yankee offense got it going against Sox ace, Josh Beckett, scoring 8 ER off him—5 of which were on HR’s—over 8 IP. Prior to yesterday’s effort, Beckett had been undefeated at home, so the victory was no small task. In the end, the Yankees won, 8-4, as they now hold a commanding 7 1/2 game lead over Boston. The team has also won 7 of its last 10 and can return home on a high note (especially with today’s off-day) as they prepare for their series against Texas.

Funny thing, the whole Cano-Pedroia debate over the weekend on the Yankees side of the blogsphere!
I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding Cano and Joe Morgan (a Yankees hater) who praises Cano even said that he overran the ball…
I like Cano, I have done business in his native city in DR but sometimes he seems out of focus, on the flip side his comaraderie with his team mates is quite evident, a major positive dyanamic.

Cano drives me crazy. It always seems like he is going 3/4 speed on the basepaths. Is he that slow?? How he got thrown out second by a mile on one off the green monster is amazing. And also he hit into a double play on Friday or Saturday that Pedroia went into the hole to his right, threw all the way to second, on to first to get him by 2 steps. Again, 3/4 speed Cano. Maybe hike up the pants Robbie.

Robbie’s problem is that his skill level is so so so high that he has always had the luxury (as most great natural talents do) to be lazy and at times it really kills his play, he allows himself to take plays off while a guy like Pedroia can’t afford to take any play at anytime off because his talent level not close to that of Cano. The drop however should have been Tex ball, I can not believe Robby even called him off, I was yelling at the screen before he even caught it for him to leave Mark alone on that play but coming from behind him Mark couldn’t see who had the better angle and if Cano calls like that he should know he has the play! Not Tex fault at all!
