In Ken Rosenthal’s latest, he claims that Toronto ace Roy Halladay is “all but gone” as the Blue Jays will likely trade him (I’m sure the Yankees won’t mind seeing Halladay go to another division). KR also speculates as to who the suitors will be for Halladay’s services and, surprisingly, the Yankees made the rather long list. According to KR, the “Jays will not hesitate to dangle Halladay to the Yankees and Red Sox, who will be perhaps their two most fervent suitors. A’s GM Billy Beane never rules out trading within his division. Ricciardi, Beane’s former assistant, probably would not, either.”
While I would love to see the Yankees acquire Halladay, Rosenthal believes that a package for him would consist of either Phil Hughes, Jesus Montero or Austine Romine Broken Glass ipod
(or maybe even a combination of the three). Now, even if the Blue Jays are okay with trading Halladay within their own division—a proposition I am still somewhat doubtful of—I would think that the Yankees would balk at sending Phil Hughes or Jesus Montero (who is crushing the ball in AA), in particular, to a division rival. That’s something Rosenthal seems to forget completely. There’s more risk for the Yankees in that deal as either player—Hughes or Montero—could eventually develop into a super star and haunt them for years in the AL East. For that reason, I doubt we’ll be seeing Roy Halladay in pinstripes come the trade deadline. If any team were to get him, I think it would be the Phillies although the Brewers could be a dark horse.

I would deal either Joba or Hughes for Halliday, plus Romine. Doc is the real deal, in the top five pitchers in the game, and it is reaosnable to assume he has another 3-4 years at his peak. Although either Joba or Hughes might someday reach that level, that is far from certain. Doc, C.C., and A.J at the front of the rotation would make any play-off foe wet his pants. With all the other catching talent in the organization, Romine is expendable. Montero looks like a superstar bat, and I would not include him, especially since the Yankees have no other hitters of comparable promise in the organization. The Scout(Quote)

I would part with any player not named Joba, Hughes, Montero (Moshe and are similar, in that regard) and although Austin Jackson hasn’t shown much power, I’d keep him too. Holding onto them would probably not allow the Yankees to trade for Halladay. But, if they were willing to take Austin Romine and several other quality prospects, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
The main problem is that, although Halladay has a number of good years left, he’s only locked up at a reasonable rate through 2010. Then he becomes a free agent and could warrant a mega multi-year deal. Chris H.(Quote)

Halladay would be an excellent pickup for any team. With him and CC on the team, the Yankees wouldn’t even need a bullpen, really, ha.
However, let’s all remember that you would only have Halladay for the rest of this season and next year. If we were talking 2-3 years, it would seem like a better option. Chris H.(Quote)
