The Yankees are smack in the middle of three player initiated and media fostered feuds. Let’s run through them:
1) Mark Teixeira and John Henry Anaconda 4: Trail of Blood buy :
wayne s world 2 dvdrip download Big Momma’s House 2 movie After the Red Sox won their eighth straight over the Yankees, Henry Tweeted, “the MT curse?” Tex responded with “There’s no reason to get into it with a 70-year-old man about baseball.” Henry turns 60 in September.
“I love playing this game,” Teixeira said. “If I have offended anybody from the time that I was 18 years old until now, I’m sorry. I don’t know what else to say. It’s a little silly. It’s actually very silly. There’s nothing else to say.”
Henry said last night the posting was harmless.
“Purely Entertainment,” Henry said in an e-mail to WEEI.com. “Nothing more. I don’t believe in curses.”
Teixeira wasn’t necessarily buying that explanation.
“You guys make the decision,” Teixeira said to the reporters around his locker. “Whose reputation looks better right now?”
Apparently Henry saw Teixeira’s pregame comments and has fired back with a new Twitter post: “Hope I didn’t hurt Mark’s feelings!” Ah, the Internet.
My Take: John Henry talks nearly as much as Hank did, and gets none of the same acrimony pointed in his direction. Quite frankly, he had to know that reporters would make a big deal about this and run to Tex. If it was a joke, it was ill advised, and if it was serious, Henry should not be trying to dodge the consequences of his words. It is not a big deal, but he needs to learn to keep quiet.
2) Joe Girardi and Brad Penny:
One day after Joe Girardi said he was certain Boston’s Brad Penny hit Alex Rodriguez on purpose, the pitcher responded with some verbal heat high and inside.
“I don’t give two — what Joe Girardi says,” Penny said before the Red Sox game Saturday in Philadelphia, according to the Boston Globe. “I’m coming inside. I don’t care. Anybody can say that. We can say that about the time they hit our guys. I’m just trying to pitch inside. Maybe he should worry about managing and not trying to be the commissioner.”
Penny wasn’t done.
“Why wouldn’t he say that the night before? Don’t wait a day, then say it. He should worry about managing and let the umpire crew do their job.”
My Take: Brad Penny needs to simmer down. Being that the umpire warned both benches immediately, it seems clear that he thought the pitch was intentional. So Penny is out on an island, claiming that he was looking for the inner half when it seems clear to most everyone else what his intentions were. And Brad? You do say it every time one of your guys gets hit. Each time Joba comes inside, we hear soliloquies about it three days later.
“Unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like that. I have, but in high school,” said Bruney, who then sounded off on Rodriguez. “It couldn’t happen to a better guy on the mound, either. He’s got a tired act.”
“I just don’t like watching the guy pitch. I think it’s embarrassing.” The latter reference was a poke at K-Rod’s passionate outbursts following a successful outing. When approached at his locker in the visiting clubhouse at Yankee Stadium before yesterday’s Subway Series game and told of Bruney’s comments, Rodriguez said, “I don’t know who that is.” But it wasn’t until after the Mets’ 6-2 victory – in which Rodriguez finished the game with a scoreless ninth – that the return fireworks exploded.
“If it was coming out from somebody big, like Mariano (Rivera) – somebody who’s been around and is good at what he does – I will respect that comment. I might pay attention to it. But somebody like that, it doesn’t bother me,” said Rodriguez, who is 1-1 with a 0.57 ERA and 16 saves in 17 chances. “He better keep his mouth shut and do his job, not worry about somebody else. I don’t even know who the guy is. I’m not going to waste my time with that guy. Instead of sending messages through the paper, next time when you see me at Citi Field, come up to me and say it to my face. He’s always been on the DL, that’s all I know.”
When he returned to the Stadium after yesterday’s Yankee loss, Bruney stood by his remarks, although he seemed chastened that K-Rod didn’t even know he existed.
“I’m not going to say I was joking,” Bruney said. “I learned to play the game a different way. You won’t see me do (celebrating on the mound). He doesn’t know who I am, so it doesn’t matter.”
My Take: I am not a huge fan of K-Rod’s antics, if only because the fact that he does the same thing after every game makes it seem staged rather than borne out of genuine emotion. However, I do not have a problem with celebrations in general, and think that Bruney probably should have kept his mouth shut. He does not have to like what K-Rod does, but it really is not his place to mouth off about another player without even being asked about him.
Update from Pete Abe: Apparently K-Rod confronted Bruney on the field and made contact with him. This could get very interesting. I sided with K-Rod this morning, but he crossed a line.

There has certainly been a lot of talking and not much good Baseball coming from the Yanks lately.
BTW-Has anyone seen that haircut/mustache on Bruney lately? I didn’t know the Village People were on a reunion tour and looking for a 7th member.

1. Given that Girardi has a player up for a 6 game suspenson for NOT hiting a player, it makes perfect sense for Girardi to protest this. This is, after all, the second pitcher who hit our player who walked off without a suspension. By raising this point, Joe either gets Penny suspended or strengthens Burnett’s appeal.
2. Bruney was out of line to say that publicly. If he has an issue with mound antics, he needs to start in his house and have a chat with Joba.

Here’s my humble take on all 3 incidents:
1) henry. “but he needs to learn to keep quiet.” Or, he’s allowed to say whatever the fuck he wants – just like Hank – but the media also needs to point out that he runs his mouth off – Just like they do everytime Hank opens his mouth.
I don’t understand Y da media was blastin Hank for speakin his damn mind. WTF?! Da guy owns da team (earned or not)!!! He’s allowed to speak his mind. I love how the media was ridiculing him as if da man has no right to give his opinion on shit. Da only problem is, like U noted Moshe, Henry has opened his mouth on multiple occasions but gets away with it. If da media is gonna act as if Hank has no right to speak, then they should hold Henry to the same standard.
2) I agree word for word with mistred.
3) I’ve never understood one thing: Fans are allowed to call up radio shows and blast and criticize players and coaches for the stupidest things, call them out, and call for them to be fired. Columnists and writers are entitled to thier opinion, get to spread it on a wide-ranging platform, and are allowed to bad-mouth players and call for managers’ heads. But a player is not allowed to state his opinion publicly?!?!?! Why da hell not? Brian Bruney hates what K-Rod does, so Brian Bruney is allowed to state his opinion. That’s all it is, an opinion. Far worse things have been uttered by fans and media. And i’m LMFAO at those who say, “Players who’re on the DL shouldn’t say anything.” WTF does that have to do with anything? He has an opinion about a pitcher on the Mets. He’s not allowed to state his opinion on that guy, why? Because he’s on the DL?!
In which bible is THAT written? Oh, is that one of baseballs ludicrous, babyish, stupid, “unwritten-rules?!”
If U don’t like what he said and disagree with his opinion, fine. But don’t ridicule him for opening his mouth! He’s allowed to say whatever he wants. Just like fans and media.
I for one disagree with Bruney steadfastly. I think the whole brouhaha over fist-pumps and celebrations is the stupidest thing ever. It’s sports. Players in the NFL and NBA celebrate way more often and U don’t hear players bitching and whining about it constantly.
But I don’t hold it agianst Bruney for saying what he feels!
As for K-Rod’s whole idea that it doesn’t matter what Bruney said because “he’s always on the DL,” and “he’s not somebody big, like Mariano,” well, it obviously DOES matter U idiotic SOB, because U confronted him on da field like a damn maniac!!!
As for those who want to bring Joba into the picture, hold on.
First of all, he’s not talkin about Joba. He was talkin about K-Rod. I love it when ppl say “if it bothers him what K-Rod does, he should talk to Joba.”
WTF?! Where does Joba come into the picture here?! He was talkin about K-Rod. Who says he likes what Joba does too?! What do U expect him to do, to just rip his teammate in public?! If the media really wants to know what Bruney’s opinion on Joba is, they should ASK him. Don’t just stand there and say “How can he say that about K-Rod when Joba does the same thing?”
Also, who says Bruney has never expressed his “disagreement” about Joba’s antics with Joba himself?!
This is what Francesa will say tomorrow. “Hey Bruney! How can U rip K-Rod when Jobber does the same thing?!”
Well, Mike, you’re allowed to have your opinion on Joba but he’s not allowed to have his opinion on K-Rod?! Who says he hasn’t talked to Joba about it?!
This whole thing is a joke. It’s only gonna really get started now when the media will fuel the fire starting Monday morning. Bruney tried to apologize a number of times on Sunday. By not accepting Bruney’s apology, refusing to let go, acting like a punk by confronting Bruney a day after saying “it doesn’t matter,” K-Rod is only confirming bruney’s original comments that he is indeed a pompous jerk.
