On the one hand, Joba's era suggests that he's pitching quite effectively despite his lack of velocity. But, on the other hand, I think we all want more than "quite effectively", so I share your frustration. It does seem though that more than his lack of velocity is his control that is hurting him. The walks are turning into runs and running up his pitch count. On the bright side, he's got lots of room for improvement and with a sub 4 era, that is reason for optimism.

How much longer are Yankees fans going to give A-Rod a free pass on his abyssmal offensive showing this season? He's had more than enough at bats to move beyond the excuse that he's still in spring training mode. Just because he has a barely respectable OPS should not be enough to excuse how badly he's hurting the team in the cleanup spot. If he continus on this path, it won't be long before his numbers and David Ortiz's are very similar. Strange thing is that with Ortiz people were wondering if his career was over not long ago. I'm not suggesting that with A-Rod, I thought it was absurd for people to be saying that about Ortiz given his age and how just last year he had a decent season. But give me a break, how is it possible that is not something we are debating here by now? It sure feels to me like the emperor has no clothes and I'm trying to point it out.

There was an event last night in Maine that Stump Merrill was to give the keynote address at, but he ended up being unavailable because he was called down to Tampa at the last minute. I believe he is still a special assistant to Cashman so it makes me think something could be brewing. Any rumors you know of?
