Minors Recap 4/27

Another tough day for the big club, but thankfully, there is minor league baseball.

Scranton defeats Rochester, 7-3

• Ian Kennedy was solid, allowing just an unearned run on 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 2/3 innings of work, and striking out 4.  He was pulled after only 81 pitches, so either he was laboring a lot in an inning or else something was wrong.  According to RAB (who heard from somebody else) it was because of blisters, so hopefully it’s nothing seriously.
• Anthony Claggett gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings.
• John Rodriguez and Shelley Duncan were each 3 for 5 with a homer.
• Juan Miranda was 1 for 5 with his 5th homer of the season, and is hitting .303 on the year.
• Austin Jackson was 1 for 5 with a double, dropping his average to .340.  No strikeouts tonight, which is encouraging.
• Eric Duncan, who is off to a hot start, went 0 for 4 with a golden sombrero, bringing back bad memories of the last few seasons.  Interestingly, he played 3rd base tonight, so maybe the Yankees are considering him as a callup to replace Angel Berroa, who looks like a butcher at 3rd so far who can’t hit a lick.

Trenton was off tonight

Tampa shuts out Lakeland, 6-0

• Jeremy Bleich was the starter, and pitched very effectively.  In 6 shutout innings, the lefty from Stanford gave up 3 hits and a walk, while striking out 6.  This dropped Bleich’s ERA to 1.66 on the season.  So far, so good.
• Austin Krum was 3 for 4 with a walk.
• Jesus Montero, DH’ing, was 2 for 4 with a double to raise his average to .364 on the season (OPS’ing a sexy .947).  Dude can hit.
• Brandon Laird and Damon Sublett were each 0 for 4, and both are struggling at the start of the season.
• Austin Romine was 1 for 3, and is hitting .290 so far.

Charleston defeats Savannah, 6-1

Baraka release
• Manny Banuelos was the starter, and pitched well.  Over 4 innings, Man-Bam struck out 4 while surrendering a run on 5 hits and 2 walks.
• Carmen Angelini was 0 for 3, and yes he made another error (his 13th of the season).  This is getting ridiculous.
• Ray Kruml was 1 for 3 with a walk and 2 steals.
• David Adams was 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, and 2 stolen bases.
• Abe Almonte and Melky Mesa were each 0 for 4.
• Taylor Grote was 1 for 4, and is hitting .291 on the year.
• Garrison Lassiter was 1 for 3 with a walk, and is hitting .346 on the season thus far.
• Chase Weems was 2 for 3 with a triple, and threw out 1 of 2 runners attempting to steal.
