IMPORTANT BLOG ANNOUNCEMENT

PLEASE CHANGE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND FEEDS TO THE NEW URL, YANKEEANALYSTS.COM. TYU IS IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH THE NEW YORK YANKEES OR YANKEES UNIVERSE.

According to Pete Abe, Mark Melancon and Dave Robertson have been promoted to the bigs, taking the roster spots of Brian Bruney and Chien-Ming Wang, who were placed on the DL. Melancon was not on the 40-man roster, but the Yankees DFA’d Humberto Sanchez to make space for Melancon. I’ll have more analysis later.

-Leave it up to the NY tabloids and national media to completely miss the mark on this game. This loss wasn’t about Mark Teixiera’s AB vs Paps, or Marte giving up the game winning blast. For the zillionth time its not about putting Joba in the bullpen. It was about Mo blowing a 2 run lead in the 9th, that’s it. When you are in a tie game in extra innings on the road, you’re not supposed to win those games. Especially in Fenway.

-Both teams squandered many opportunities to win the game. The Yanks were on the edge of breaking the game open twice vs the Sox bullpen, and the Sox hit into a bunch of double plays that killed rallies for them. If we learned anything, it may be that the Boston bullpen isn’t as strong and improved as we’ve been lead to believe. The Yanks are a patient bunch and the Sox relievers simply weren’t throwing enough strikes.

-Losing Cody Ransom to the DL is a mercy killing for me. He’s been horrendous, and I’ve been hoping Girardi would replace him with Ramiro Pena for his fielding skills if nothing else.

-Losing Brian Bruney would be a much bigger hit, and would put the 8th up for grabs on most nights. For his part, Bruney is downplaying his elbow and didn’t even want to see a Doctor, but the Yanks are insisting on it. Expect him to get DL’d and shut down for a week or so even if they only find mild inflammation.

-With Ransom and Wang DL’d, the Yanks have two roster moves to make for tonight’s contest. Dave Robertson is already on his way, and Angel Berroa figures to be the replacement backup infielder. Hughes will probably take Steven Jackson’s spot on the roster next tuesday vs the Tigers, so the only wild card is Bruney. Aceves or Tomko could be brought up if they want to carry a long man. But if Bruney misses any significant time, look for the timetable on bringing up Mark Melancon to get accelerated.

UPDATE-No big suprise here, but WFAN’s Sweeney Murti just announced that Hughes will get the Tuesday start vs the Tigers.
