I’ll be honest…I think that the Sox do have the better bullpen right now…but as has been alluded to in this comments section, the overall ignorance shown towards the Yankee relief pitching by ESPN (actually, the entire MLB media and Red Sox fans) is quite disturbing at this point.

The Yankees have one of the best BP’s in baseball, period.

These guys might be right in terms of the actual results but the logic stinks. If I were to say the reasons that the Yankees might finish third, I would say:

1. Old at Catcher and SS and generally weak up the middle – barring a breakout year by someone in Center. Both Boston and Tampa are better defensively.

2. Risk of injuries to Jaba, Burnett and old Rivera.

I listened to them bash the Yankees so much over the last few years that I pretty much quit reading and listening to ESPN.

The only person on there worth a damn is Colin Cowherd who actually defends NY for their high payroll.

Eric Kasselius is the worst. He is the biggest Boston homer there is.

It’ll be fun to see who has a better pen this year. I think the Yankees will edge out Boston, but it’ll be close.

Hmmm-I didn’t used to be fat. Any exemptions for formerly skinny guys who got old?

ESPN = haters. It wasn’t that many years ago that they were saying Guzman and Tejada were ‘much better than Jeter’. And yes, that’s the Guzman that played for the Twins. Some things you just can’t forget, and that’s one of them.

Yeah, it seems the T-BAG (typical Baseball Analyst Guy – ref Max Kellerman) is completely clueless about bullpens because they only respond to names and don’t look at stats. With the typical reliever’s short career arc, by the time a T-BAG figures out that a guy is good, he’s probably on the downswing. I mean, how hard is it to go to ESPN.com (your own site!) and look up 2008 bullpen ERA by team? It’s just laziness.

The bullpen thing is really starting to bother me. The Yankees bullpen was excellent last season, and should only get better. Total ignorance on their part.
