According to a Sports Illustrated report, Alex Rodriguez tested positive in 2003 for two different types of anabolic steroids.

From the article:

In 2003, when he won the American League home run title and the AL Most Valuable Player award as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for two anabolic steroids, four sources have independently told Sports Illustrated.

Rodriguez’s name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball’s ‘03 survey testing, SI’s sources say. As part of a joint agreement with the MLB Players Association, the testing was conducted to determine if it was necessary to impose mandatory random drug testing across the major leagues in 2004.

When reached for comment in Miami Rodriguez said “you’ll have to talk to the union…I’m not saying anything.”

Should be another interesting Spring training in Yankeeland and another heap of pressure will find itself on A-Rod’s shoulders.

Your thoughts. Shocked? Unsurprised? More and more, Jose Canseco’s book, Juiced,  is becoming a non-fiction account and not a liar’s ledger.

Arod and 103 other players. No one is going to focus on them in the next few days. Arod gets an unfair deal.  (Quote)

We just gotta hope a few prominent redsox are on the list too. Seeing as though it seems everybody in the media hates the yankees thats doubtful.  (Quote)

If there are any Red Sox on that list their names will not see the light of day or they will not be identified as Sox. If Manny were on this list he’d be LA Dodger Manny Ramirez.  (Quote)

I’m not going to defend A-Rod on this one. He’s an idiot and should have known better. He’s already hated by a large percentage of the baseball community, so this will only make things worse. All the goodwill Joe Torre created for him through his recent book is now gone. The boos will rain down on him—seriously.  (Quote)
