Yesterday we discussed Joe Girardi’s configuration of his rotation, which has Joba Chamberlain as the fifth starter. Apparently that lines Joba up to start on April 16th against Cleveland, which just happens to be the first game in the new Yankee Stadium. I am glad that Joba is going to get that start, although it may have been a bit more symmetrical for Andy Pettitte to get the ball for that game. Joba is a homegrown Yankee who should be around for a while, and hopefully he will become an indelible part of Yankee history. Getting the ball for this historic game is a good start.

It’s not set in stone that Joba will start opening day at the new stadium. Theres an off day between the first game of the season and the first game at NYS. Joba could actually be skipped and the start would line up with Sabathia..

I dont know…that would mean Joba does not touch the hill until April 15th. I’m not sure if I like that.

Yea I hear ya Moshe. But keeping in mind Joba’s gonna have a finite number of starts to work with, I’d rather he start game in late september than early April. Obviously they count the same in the standings, but if we’re in the thick of a division/wildcard race I’d want him pitching in the high pressure games.

Then again it matters not what I want so we’ll just have to wait and see. It would be pretty sweet to have the first official pitch of the new stadium be a 99 mph fastball knee high over the outside corner of the plate.

That is true, I would also prefer that he start late rather than be shut down early.

I doubt Yankees management will want to put so much pressure on Joba – they’ll probably wanna showcase the new $160M man in CC – but if it happens, OMG!!! That would simply be awesome… I’m not gonna be at the game, but i’m sure as hell gonna be in front of the TV with my “Joba Rules” T-Shirt…. I’m getting more pumped up for the start of the season by the minute. GO YANKESS!
